Lee secures a role during Covid-19

Lee was elated when he secured a part-time role at Morrisons and his work coach Kerry was delighted to have helped him get the role he was looking for.

Why did Lee join Kennedy Scott?

Lee was introduced to the Specialist Employability Support (SES) programme by his work coach at the Jobcentre Plus in Blyth. Lee suffered with anxiety and didn’t feel comfortable in large crowds which affected him looking for work. He also suffers with tinnitus and has chronic back pain.

How did Kennedy Scott help?

Lee met his case worker Kerry and together they produced a development plan which included getting some further experience in customer service, retail skills and cash handling. The development plan also included confidence building and focused on the type of support he would need to overcome his anxiety, especially in large crowds.

Lee and Kerry met regular and as well as attending the confidence workshops. which was helping him be more comfortable around people. To support him further, Kerry encouraged Lee to attend job fairs in the local area. Kerry went with Lee for morale support and to be that familiar face in a large crowd.

Whilst at the job fairs Lee actively spoke to employers and put himself out there. Lee struggled at first as one of the job fairs was very busy but with the encouragement from Kerry his anxiety levels reduced, and he started to engage well with employers.

Kerry supported Lee in tailoring his CV towards both retail and call handling. With a new CV, Kerry helped Lee apply for jobs at local supermarkets, retailers and call centres.

It wasn’t long before Lee was contacted by Morrisons and they offered him an interview. Lee was fully prepped for the interview to help reduce his nerves and was given some new clothes to make him feel confident.

Getting the job

On the day of the interview, Kerry picked Lee up to give him a confidence boost and give him reassurance. He confidently completed the interview and felt it went well.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, there was a delay in Lee finding out the outcome of the interview which made him nervous but in early April he was offered a part-time role with Morrisons.

Lee was reimbursed for his travel to work for the first month until he got his first pay. Lee is now a key worker in the role and feels great to be giving something back to the community - helping people get their essentials items during this difficult time.
