Angelika fulfills her ambition to work as an Activity Co-ordinator

After joining Help to Work, Angelika fulfilled her ambition to work as an Activity Co-ordinator, finding employment as a classroom support worker for Ferring County Centre, a local independent charity who provide training and work experience for people with learning disabilities.

Angelika joined Kennedy Scott's DWP co-financed European Social Fund Help to Work programme in August 2018, after being referred by her advisor from the National Careers Service at the JCP office in Worthing. Angelika suffered from several medical conditions due to having a bad experience in her previous employment, but she believed that these issues would disappear once she starts working again.

Angelika had been unemployed for the past four months after leaving her previous employment, although she had several interviews in the interim, she had been unsuccessful in finding employment. Angelika demonstrated enthusiasm about finding employment, although she needed some support with her IT Skills. Angelika was signposted to IT Junction to receive support to improve her IT skills, but she didn’t like the environment and decided not to progress with the course. Instead she started receiving extra support from Jorge, her Kennedy Scott advisor as well as the National Careers Service and her sons.

Due to the importance of tweaking CVs and Covering Letters to match job descriptions, before submitting applications, Angelika was supported by Jorge to create different CVs focusing on different type of rolls. After receiving this support, Angelika gained confidence and started feeling more positive about completing applications and tweaking CVs.

Angelika had a conversation with Jorge about the jobs she really wanted to do, she seemed unsure if the jobs she was finding through jobsearch websites were really suitable for her, Angelika informed Jorge that she would really like to work as an Activity Co-ordinator. To explore this, Jorge and Angelika created a list of local employers in this line of employment, Angelika then designed cover letters and CVs specifically around this and posted them to all fifteen companies on the list. After a few days the results of this activity showed, and Angelika was invited to three job interviews, which resulted in Angelika being offered employment with Ferring County Centre as a Classroom Co-ordinator.

Angelika was especially grateful to the support she received from Jorge, even though she has now found employment she has taken away valuable life skills when looking for employment, having learned better IT skills and tailoring your applications for specific roles. In addition, Angelika felt fully supported at all times, she could contact Jorge at any time for support and Jorge always was happy to help. Angelika has informed Jorge that she is really enjoying her new role and hopes there are many more years to come.
