Roy Meredith is one of the success stories of the Kennedy Scott Watford centre. Roy was referred to the KS Basic Employability Training course by his Jobcentre Plus Adviser and received ongoing coaching from Basic Skills Specialist Gill Horsman. Although Roy showed some signs of dyslexia, his main barrier to progress was low self esteem manifested by initial poor attendance due to alcohol abuse.
As time has progressed Roy has come out of his shell in group sessions and has shown considerable distance travelled through much improved regular attendance. Able to work well as part of the group, he has also been able to assist other less able learners in the group which has had the knock-on effect of developing his self confidence.
Gill and Roy have concentrated on a 1:1 basis on spelling strategies which he has been very enthusiastic about, and Gill has also supported Roy in completion of Application Forms and updated his CV.
Roy is currently awaiting confirmation that he has secured employment with a contract cleaning company.
