The Corps Recruitment Day
Many employers often face the problem of having a large number of vacancies that they need to fill quickly. Kennedy Scott’s solution is to offer a recruitment day at which the employer can see a large number of suitable KS clients, collect completed application forms from them and arrange interview times. Our designated employer suite at the Holloway Road centre provides ample space and pleasant surroundings in which to hold a recruitment day.

The first of these recruitment days took place on July 12th. David Burgess, of The Corps, was invited by Kennedy Scott’s Employer Liaison Officer Urmish Patel to spend the day in the employer suite meeting with KS clients. The Corps specialises in supplying security guards for various purposes ranging from manning the doors of banks to managing security at special events. They employ a considerable number of staff and so have an ongoing need for recruitment. Their main requirements from their staff include reliability, punctuality and good customer service skills. No experience is necessary as The Corps provides full training to obtain the SAC security licence.

Once Urmish received confirmation that The Corps could attend, he notified all the centres and asked them to send clients who were interested in security work to the event. He also suggested that the centres send clients interested in other fields of work as he would spend time helping to match them to suitable vacancies.

The big day arrived and from 10:00 onwards KS clients poured through the doors of our employer suite. Those interested in security work were promptly directed to David’s desk where he talked them through the type of work The Corps could offer them and asked them to complete application forms. Those interested in other fields of work were directed to Urmish who talked to them about vacancies currently being managed by Kennedy Scott on behalf of employers. Many of the clients were interested in jobs in the retail sector and Urmish agreed with them to put their CVs forward for vacancies at Harrods and House of Fraser. If no vacancies matched the client’s preferences they were asked to complete a form describing what sort of work they were looking for. Urmish will now try to find them the jobs they want.

David was impressed by the calibre of clients he saw and offered 25 interviews for the following week. He has attended similar events arranged by other training providers but felt that the quality of service offered by Kennedy Scott was superior. "The people I’ve seen today," he told us "have been given a really good understanding of what security work involves and they meet the criteria we require." Some applicants invited to interview were from KS’s newly launched "Women in Security". David was pleased at the number of women who came to the event as there is a real shortage of female security staff. "Bringing in more women is a good thing," he commented, "as they often have the ability to defuse a situation without conflict, which makes them very suitable for many of our roles." The day was an overall success and we plan to hold a similar event with multiple employers including The Corps, NCP, Capes UK, Parcelforce and Euro Carparks on 16th August.
