Kennedy Scott gain Disability Confident Leader status
Kennedy Scott are delighted to announce that we are now a Disability Confident Leader. We achieved this accolade following an independent assessment by Genius Within, a well-known organisation specialising in supporting people with neurodiverse conditions. The status is valid for three years and in order to achieve it a review of procedures was conducted, employees were trained and feedback was collected from staff throughout the organisation to gain different viewpoints and perspectives. Current disabled employees also had a big input in the process.
The Disability Confident scheme was launched in November 2016, providing employers with guidance and acknowledgement for recruiting, retaining and developing disabled employees; it was developed with employers, disability charities and disabled people. The scheme has 3 levels which are Disability Confident ‘Committed’, ‘Employer’ and ‘Leader’. At each level employers commit to taking actions that will make a real difference to disabled employment. To become a Disability Confident Leader, organisations must promote Disability Confident to local businesses and their Supply Chain as well as share best practice.
Simon Bates, Kennedy Scott’s EDI Advisor, was instrumental in our achievement and had this to say about us gaining Level 3 status: “It’s fantastic to receive this recognition for the policies and procedures we have in place at Kennedy Scott to try and attract, and retain, employees with disabilities. It was a great team effort with staff from across the organisation contributing feedback or their expertise to ensure we met the standards required for Leader status. This is just the beginning though, as we embark on the next stage – improving further what we do whilst helping to promote Disability Confident at every opportunity, encouraging other businesses to embark on the journey and illustrating the benefits to all as we aim to contribute to reducing the disability employment gap”
As part of Kennedys Scott’s new Leader status we will be acting as a champion for Disability Confident within our local business communities. We will have the honour of encouraging and supporting other organisations in our supply chain and networks to become Disability Confident themselves. In doing so, we will be showing disabled people that we are leading the way in getting every business to become Disability Confident.
