Tara Bennett, Banbury

Tara joined the Kennedy Scott Banbury Community Jobsource programme with a clear and resolute job goal of working in supportive role within the care sector.  However, she was concerned that her susceptibility to depression and panic attacks would hold her back.

The KS team responded to both her vocational and her emotional needs. Centre Manager Cathy supported her jobsearch efforts, helping her to produce a CV and cover letters that compensated for her lack of experience in the care sector by demonstrating her passion and enthusiasm for helping people. She also identified and arranged a place for Tara on an “Introduction to Care” course. The course gave Tara valuable insight into the role of a Support Worker and proved to employers her commitment to the care profession.

Job Coach Nicola helped Tara to work through her personal issues. Nicola’s support helped Tara to develop strategies for preventing panic attacks at work and for dealing with depression on a day-by-day basis.

Before joining the programme, Tara had applied for a job as a Support Worker helping adults with learning difficulties with Caretech Community Services. This application had not been successful but she decided to re-apply submitting the CV and cover letter created with coaching from Cathy. Tara was delighted to be offered the job and feels the success of her second application proves the effectiveness of the KS programme.

Tara is looking forward to starting her new role once a CRB check has been carried out. She also has long-term career plans involving studying for NVQs up to level 4 and ultimately training as a midwife.
