Wayne Williams, Holloway Centre |
Wayne joined the Gateway 18-24 programme at Holloway after being unemployed for about four months. The Jobcentre had sent him to other programmes but they hadn’t been able to help. The Holloway Business Manager talked to Wayne about the kind of work he wanted to do. Wayne explained that he had experience in general construction work but was finding it difficult to find construction jobs because he did not have any relevant qualifications. Coincidentally, a construction company was currently working on renovating part of the Holloway building. Never one to miss an opportunity, our manager approached the company and asked if they would consider taking Wayne on. Wayne was offered a two week placement with the company, which will lead to full employment. She has also suggested that the job be turned into a modern apprenticeship, which would allow Wayne to study for and gain the right qualifications for his trade.
